In retrospect, it becomes clear that this was the era of Game of Thrones. We wanted the portraits to look almost ghoulish in conversation with the makeup. Because this shoot was styled well in advance of beginning pre-production, I had to get creative with tight frames and low-budget solutions to effectively fake neck-up Renaissance portraiture.
